If you are in anyway involved in the hair and beauty industry you can’t afford to miss the Brisbane hair and beauty expo.
Last year I had an incredible time, I loved every minute of it. From hanging with my likeminded hair obsessed friends to finding new and exciting products and tools to make my work life easier. To chilling in the champagne lounge. So much fun.
In planing for the event this year I have compiled a list of the brands/products I am most excited about. But if last year is anything to go by, it will be the things that I least expect that take me breath away.
Brands Im most excited about
-Affinage for some styling products black and white ice(shampoo ect) are incredible
-Amazing hair tape extensions for fun colours for shoots
– Colour placement system had me captivated last year I think I watched their demo about ten times make sure you check them out.
-Beauté international is one of the suppliers I already use and love. I look forward to seeing what show specials they have on polishes, lashes, hair styling products and much more.
-Beauty world has some incredible nail colours and products that look like such fun.
-I have been wanting to add dry body brushing to my regime so I’m heading to bode care to see what they have to offer.
-At last years brisbane hair and beauty expo I was pampered by the talented folks from the Be(you)tiful bar. It was so nice to sit and take a load of and get a funky do for the rest of the day. Such fun make sure you pop over and take advantage of their hair, nail and makeup services
Things I will be looking for
-I need a new spray tan system so I will be looking at eco tan, techno tan, tan by lucy lane.
-Crown brushes get me every time I love there brushes. I own lots of them and you can be sure I will pick up some more. I also want to get some of their eye shadow pallets I have heard such good things.

Today on the blog I compare two foundations. One is what is commonly referred to as a “drug store” product, readily available at most chemist/priceline stores for under $25.The other is a top of the line luxurious foundation available at a high-end counter in david jones for almost $100. A real spluge v;s steal foundation.
I had read some reviews online stating that these two products although massive price points apart, perform so similarly that they could be referred to as “dupes”. Who dosn’t love a steal v’s a splurge at times.
So I decided to try it for myself. I had wanted to try the Giorgio Armani luminous silk foundation for quite sometime, but I was reluctant to pay $98 for a foundation. On a whim one day in the city, I decided to treat myself.
The l’oreal nude magique on the other hand, I found harder to purchase. I fear I have become a foundation snob. It has been years and years since I have worn a drug store foundation. But under the internets promise of high end results I bit the bullet.
At first glance the only major difference I could find was the texture of the foundations, the l’oreal one was quite a bit runnier than the Armani.
I have the shade 5 in the Armani one and 120 in the l’oreal.
I have to say that the results are quite similar, I did find slightly more coverage with the Armani foundation, but this was achievable by building the coverage of the l’oreal.
armani – l’oreal
Verdict- If your budget allows, I say go for the Armani, there is something luxurious about using such an expensive foundation. But I also have to say the L’oreal is a great foundation and achieves an almost undetectable result.
There has been lots of these type of posts,” if there was a makeup apocalypse and you had to start your collection again what would you replace first”/ “if you could only own 15 makeup items what would they be”.
So lets pretend that all of my makeup has disappeared and I can only replace 15 items, what would be my most needed/wanted products.
1- Moisturizer/Primer, I’m not sure if skin care is a different kettle of fish, but I’m assuming it is. So if I have a moisturizer I would purchase a primer at the moment I’m loving the Hourglass mineral veil primer.
2- Foundation, I couldn’t live with out a good foundation. My favourite is the Face Atelier ultra foundation.
3- Brow gel would be high on my list I love the MUFE aqua brow it is so easy to work with and water proof, that’s a big win in my book.
4- Eyeliner specifically a gel liner is essential for me, I use the Inglot get liner almost everyday.
5- Mascara is a must if I have foundation and some mascara on I feel ready to tackle the day ahead. My most used mascara at the moment is eye of horous.
6- Concealer plays a huge role in combating the major dark circles my eyes sport after more than a decade of broken sleep. I couldn’t get by with out the Eve Pearl salmon concealer.
7- Setting powder/powder foundation. To help set my concealer and matte down my t zone I sometimes use a loose powder at the moment I love the Models prefer mineral powder foundation.
8- Blush if I could only have one blush in my collection it would be Nars orgasm it is the perfect colour with a beautiful sheen.
9- Contour would have to be on the list my go to is Nars Laguna bronzer it is a great shade for most skin tones.
10- Highlighter would be next I love Mac strobe cream either on its own or mixed into my foundation
11- Highlighter again I also love Macs minieralized skin finish in soft and gentle it is such a beautiful product I couldn’t live without it.
12- Eye shadows, I would add the viseart sultry nudes pallet to my collection
13- Lipstick I wear our Madame rouge makeup comfort wear lipstick in Bella, it is soft and creamy to wear all day.
14- Pressed powder to keep in my handbag for touch ups while out and about. I love Macs studio fix powder.
15- A good brush set is essential I would purchase the zoeva rose gold brush set.
If you had to start a fresh what would be on your list? XD
This year marked the 2nd annual Pro makeup and beauty show held in Brisbane. Once again Jodie and her team have delivered an outstanding event, full of top of the line exhibitors and invaluable education.
pro makeup and beauty show brisbane
I started planning my shopping list and which demos I wanted to see early on. I have found with all trade shows it is easy to get caught up in the excitement and miss out on the things you wanted to see.
It is really easy to get blinded by the bright lights and shiny packaging and buy all the things. This is when having a list and a budget in mind really helps.
I was working Saturday morning, so I wouldn’t get the show until after lunch. Top of my list were the visart eye shadow pallets and the Maq Pro corrector and lip pallets from makeup and glow.
Visart eye shadow pallets and Maq pro creme pallets
They are so coveted I knew they would fly of the shelves, so I asked a friend of mine who was going to be there first thing Saturday morning to pick them up for me. I got the visart pallets in 01 basic, 04 dark mattes, 05 sultry muse and 06 paris nude.
When I arrived at the show on saturday afternoon I did a lap of all the exhibitors, made a few impulse purchases such as the eco sponges that fascinated me.
I headed to the main stage to see Joel Richy share his take on highlighting and contouring.
Followed by the very knowledgeable Dale Dorning who shared his must haves with the audience including some of his own Proof cosmetics.
Dale Dorning working his magic
Zoe Tranter from Makeup and Glow gave a detailed insight into airbrushing.
I had a large list of Inglot products I wanted, and at other trade shows it has been a nightmare to get to the counter and then have your order filled, so I grabbed an order form to take back to the hotel to fill out. I dropped it off to the great staff at the Inglot stand sunday morning and picked it up later in the day, it was so much easier.
Sunday at the brisbane pro makeup and beauty show also delivered some incredible demonstrations on the main stage. I had the opportunity to see James Vincent present his signature style. He is not only so very talented, but so funny he had me in stitches.
The remainder of the day I spent helping out the incredible team from Makeup and Glow, as my kit is made up of majority of their products, I used my knowledge and hands on experience to help shoppers find their way. As the day progressed I started adding more and more products from makeup and glow to my shopping bag, it is so nice to have the opportunity to touch and see the products.
The thing I love the most about the show is getting to catch up with industry peers. As most of us work for our selves we don’t have the same work/employee relationships that others get from there work places. We make strong connections online via groups and forums, so it is such a great opportunity to get together.
I managed to get all the items I had on my shopping list, picked up so many insider hints and tricks and had a fantastic time catching up with colleges and friends. I want to send a massive congratulations and thank you to Jodie and all the brisbane pro makeup and beauty show team for, once again pulling together an incredible event.
After a huge success last year the Pro makeup and beauty show is back again this year, and will not disappoint.
If you are studying or working in the makeup and or beauty industry you can’t afford to miss this event.
With a wide array of local and international talents gathered together to share and inspire us with their extensive skills and knowledge, you are guaranteed to walk away in awe.
Here is a list of the products I am looking forward to checking out.
Beauty effectz – with their wide variety of designer perfumes and candles I am sure to take home some new additions for home and my studio, I always have either a candle or melts burning. If candles are not your thing, the range of skin care and hand creams are to die for.
Brisbane lashes – If you are looking for a trusted lash technitian to make your eyes stand out, or if you are wanting to add a new service to your business. Look no further than the expert team at Brisbane lashes.
Caption – carries a wide variety of gel, acrylic and nail art products along with expert advice and customer service. If you offer nail services you wont want to miss them. I will be checking out their gel nail products along with there glitters.
Crown brush – never disappoint with their extensive range of makeup brushes to suit any budget. Along with a wide range of makeup cases, airbrushing tools and lighting. I always stock up on brushes from crown, I use them not only in my kit but personally as well. Last year I picked up some of the vi neill brushes and the artisan series set and I am in love. I will be adding to my collection.
Inglot – another crowd favourite. I have filled numerous z pallets with inglots eye shadows. I plan on expanding my collection of eye shadows as well as adding some blushes. I picked up one of their AMC cream foundations last year and it is beautiful. I want to get a range of colours to add to my kit. I am also interested in looking at inglots pressed powders. I will pick up some back ups of my kit essentials the gel liners, in black, brown and white.
I am looking forward to checking out Iwata airbrushing, and seeing what innovative new products and equipment they have to offer.
Makeup and glow is a one stop shop for makeup artists. I was on the other side of the stand last year, helping out the fantastic team of makeup professionals from makeup and glow. The range they stock is so comprehensive, and the knowledge and assistance they share with the industry is unsurpassed. I will be re purchasing some elementwo airbrush foundations, model in a bottle setting sprays, some new beauty blenders, embryolisse lait crème concentre. Along with some parian spirit.
I am interested in having a look at the My eco sponge. I have heard some good things about there sponges, so I cant wait to see them in person and have a play.
St. tropez tanning will also be at the show, I love their tanning products, so I am looking forward to seeing any new products, and any specials they will be running.
If last years pro makeup and beauty show is any indication, I will end up adding something from almost every exhibitor. Sometimes the items you didn’t plan on buying end up being your favourites.
The displays and demonstrations that will be happening through out the show will no doubt be major draw cards. VIP guest artists will be sharing their skills and knowledge with us from the main stage on both days.
Bookings can also be made for some of the incredible hands on workshops on offer. I am looking forward to participating in Mia Conners smoke bomb eyes workshop.
Keep up to date with the show on Facebook

Makeup from Curvy Couture roadshow
Sophie from Ginchy Salon shared with me the looks they were going for on the runway.” The makeup Curvy Couture roadshow focused on intensifying each models natural beauty. We achieved this by creating an individual contour pattern, bringing in the cheeks and enlarging the shape of the eyes.”
The team created a smokey look using greys, golds and black on the eyes as well as wasp eyelashes on the outer corner of the eyes to created width and depth. The models lips were a focal point, the makeup artist used Klara cosmetics Flaming red matte lipstick to achieve this.
For the hair a slightly vintage look was achieved focusing on the models natural hair type. The team worked with curls and shape to create some timeless looks. Some of the models with longer hair had beautiful french braids worked into their looks.
All of the models look amazing, their confidence shone so bright on the catwalk. The vintage inspired hair and the bold red lips were such a sophisticated look.
The hair and makeup team hit it out of the ball park. Check out Ginchy salon on Facebook.
My makeup from the curvy couture roadshow
I am still trying to get the hang of blogging about not only makeup but also fashion. I was so focused on my outfit and getting glammed up that I didn’t get good photos of my makeup on the night. Here is a blurry cab selfie I took on the way to the show.
The look I went for, is soft and elegant. Its my go to look when I want to look polished and not over done.
I will give you a list of the products I used this look and show you what products I used.
I applied colour tattoo from Maybelline in colour 55 inked in pink over the lower lid and blended it through my crease. I then applied a soft taupe over the lower lid. I then added a light grey onto the outer conner of the eye and blended it through the crease.
I then intensified the outer eye and the crease with a darker grey.
I lined my tight line and upper lash line with Inglot’s black gel liner and smudged it out to create a softer look.
I used my go to concealer, the salmon concealer from Eve Pearl, under my eyes and on a couple of spots. I had packed my fabulous Element two airbrush machine as it is so light and compact, so I airbrushed my foundation also using the element two airbrush foundation.
I then filled in my brows using my favourite brow powder by Final touch brows.
I applied a pair of my favourite lashes from Model Rock, using there lash glue which has replaced Duo lash glue in my personal and professional makeup kit and added some mascara.
I then contoured my face using my Inglot contour powder. I highlighted my cheek bones, nose and cupids bow with the hourglass ambient light powder in incandescent light. I am obsessed with the hourglass highlighters and blush at the moment.
I also used the hourglass blush in mood exposure on the apples of my cheeks.
I finished the look with my Madame Rouge Makeup comfort wear lipstick in Bella, the perfect soft pink.
A spray of Model in a bottle setting spray and I was good to go.
